Our Agritourism Story
Chateau Orman began long before it welcomed its first guests. The estate has been in our family for generations: Grandpa Stojan inherited it from his father, and at 95 he is still its heart — sharp as ever, and always ready to tell the story of Orman. As he tells it, in Ottoman times this was where the empire’s highest-ranking officials chose to build their homes. Traces of that past remain to this day: the old Altanin Bridge (Altanin Most) still stands, and Orman is home to a famous mosaic.
When he was just six years old, Grandpa Stojan planted a service tree (Sorbus domestica, known here as oskorusha). That same tree is the emblem of Distillery Balaklija, and it still bears the fruit we use to make our service-tree liqueur — awarded a Gold Medal at the Sofia Rakia Fest 2025 in the liqueur category.
Orce has built on this heritage to create a family business that brings every generation together — in the orchards, the distillery, the kitchen and the guest rooms. Our wish is simple: that every guest who arrives at Chateau Orman feels at home.
